Safety is very important when hunting on an ATV. Safety not only includes the type of gear you are wearing, but it also includes driving your ATV responsibly.

Wearing appropriate clothing when hunting on your ATV will protect your body freom the wind, cold and any flying debris. It is reccommended that you wear a helmet, goggles, gloves, long sleeve shirt or jacket and long pants. There is specially deisgned clothing for ATV riders that is water resistant and can withstand any flying debris.

Before hunting on your ATV make sure you research the area you plan on hunting in to see if there are any special rules or regulations. Below is a list of tips that will help you remain safe while hunting on your ATV.

Hunting ATV Tips

Travel responsibly: stay on roads and trails that are designated for ATVs.

Moderate the throttle and use the clutch in wet conditions to have the most traction.

Avoid widening roads by driving over all obstacles instead of going around them.

Only cross streams at the designated spot.

Follow all signs and barriers.

When recovering game, take the road that will get you as close as you can to your game and then walk the rest of the way.

Never ride with a loaded firearm; Make sure your firearm is secured in a separate case from your ammunition.

Be respectful of private property and all other people on the trail.

Only take a shot if you can clearly see the animal and you know what is between you and the target and beyond your target.

Never shoot across a trail, road or waterway.

Leave all gates the way you found them.

Never cross private property without receiving permission.

Always yield the right of way to riders going uphill and others that are passing you, which include other ATV riders, bikers, hikers and horses.

When passing groups of people and camping areas reduce your speed.

Before going out on your ATV research the area and find out all rules and regulations.

Dress appropriately with layers and the necessary safety gear, which includes a helmet, eye protection and depending on where you are hunting this may also include Hunter Orange.

Never travel alone, always travel with other hunters.

Check your vehicle before leaving on a trip. Always carry tools and supplies in case your vehicle breaks down.

Protect wildlife by avoiding meadows, lakeshores, wetlands and streams unless they are along a designated route.

Clean up after yourself, leave everything the way you found it.
